What to Bring to Your Bridal Fitting

Your bridal appointment is when you begin to see your wedding day vision come to life. From trying on beautiful gowns and exploring different silhouettes, to discovering the dress that feels like the one - it can be one of the most exciting milestones in your wedding planning journey.

We understand that bridal fittings can be a little bit nerve wracking, especially if it's your first appointment and you don't know what to expect. Knowing how to prepare and what to bring with you can make a big difference in helping you feel confident, prepared, and ready to enjoy the experience.

Here’s our guide to what to bring to your bridal appointment so you can get the most out of your wedding dress fitting.

Your Wedding Details

It can be really helpful for your stylist to know a few key details about your wedding. At your appointment, you may be asked about your wedding venue, date/season and overall theme so your stylist can recommend dress designs that feel personal to you and your vision. It's also important to be clear about your budget. Remember, good stylists will help you find your dream dress within your budget - not encourage you to go over it.

Inspiration Photos

Yes, those Pinterest boards WILL come in handy! Bring along any inspiration photos you have - from socials, wedding magazines or bridal designers' websites. This can help your stylist understand styles you love, necklines your drawn to and fabrics or silhouettes you prefer.  If you’re not sure what silhouette will suit you or how to choose from all the styles, don’t worry - that’s what our expert bridal consultants are here to help with.

That said, it’s also important to keep an open mind. Your bridal stylist may suggest gowns you wouldn’t normally pick yourself, but these often turn out to be the biggest surprises. Trying different silhouettes can help you discover what truly suits your body shape and wedding vision, and many brides fall in love with a gown that’s completely different from what they originally imagined.

The Right People

Choosing who to bring to your bridal appointment is just as important as what you bring. We recommend bringing one to four trusted people whose opinions you value - whether that’s your mum, sister, best friend, or maid of honour. Too many opinions can sometimes make the process overwhelming, so keeping your group small often leads to a more relaxed and enjoyable experience. It's not uncommon to have brides come in by themselves too, so if you'd rather go it alone, that's absolutely fine!

The Right Underwear

The right underwear can help you see how a dress will truly look and fit. Many bridal gowns have fitted padding and are designed to be worn without a bra, but wearing skin-toned, seamless underwear is always recommended. This makes sure you can get a true vision of the dress without visible lines, and ensures maximum comfort when changing in and out of a dress.

If you already know your dress may be strapless or backless, you could also bring any specialist underwear you already own, but don’t worry if you don’t have this yet.

Shoes With a Similar Height

Most brides find their wedding shoes after they've decided on their dress, so don't worry about bringing the exact shoes. That said, bringing a pair with a heel height that you're likely to go for can be helpful - whether that's flats, kitten heels, or 6-inch stilletos. This will allow you to see how the dress length will fall, and get a better sense of posture and overall silhouette.

If you're unsure on which style you'll be wearing, a pair of simple heels you feel comfortable in will work perfectly. At Veil & Bloom, we have a selection of heels for brides to wear as they try on their dresses if you don't have a pair to bring to your appointment.

Any Accessories You've Chosen

If you’ve already started collecting accessories for your wedding day, bring them along to your appointment. These might include hair accessories or clips, jewellery, or even a veil. Seeing these pieces alongside your gown can help you visualise the full bridal look and ensure everything works beautifully together. It can also help your stylist recommend dresses that complement your accessories and overall wedding aesthetic.

Minimal Makeup and Hair Ties

You don't need to arrive fully glammed, but if you're a regular makeup wearer then a minimalist, natural look can help you feel more confident when trying on gowns. Hair ties or clips are useful for experimenting with different hairstyles, and seeing how they look with different necklines. We also ask that any fake tan is applied at least 2 days prior to trying on wedding dresses, with one layer rinsed off to avoid transfer. Avoid wearing any instant tan as this can leave marks on the dresses.

Making the Most of Your Bridal Appointment

Your bridal appointment should feel exciting, relaxed, and memorable. Being prepared allows you to focus on the most important part - finding the dress that makes you feel amazing. At Veil and Bloom, our goal is to create a welcoming, supportive environment where every bride can enjoy the experience of discovering her perfect gown.
