What to expect at your Veil & Bloom bridal fitting

Updated: Jul 23

Wedding dress shopping is one of the most magical parts of your bridal journey — you’ve said “yes” to the love of your life, now it’s time to say “yes” to the dress. We know that choosing your gown can feel overwhelming with so many beautiful options, but here at Veil & Bloom our goal is to make you feel relaxed, pampered, and truly special as soon as you walk through our doors.

Here’s what you can expect from your wedding dress fitting experience at our South Wales bridal boutique...

Wedding dresses on wooden hangers, featuring lace and tulle, hang on a metal rack in a neutral-toned room. Elegant and serene setting.

When to schedule your bridal fitting

We advise brides to start looking for their wedding dress around 9-12 months before their wedding date. Although we’d love the process to be as simple as saying “yes” to the dress, there are other timelines to consider — including delivery time from the designers and alterations, both of which can take a few months. We recommend the earlier the better for booking your wedding dress fitting so we can make sure the process is as smooth and stress-free as possible for you. That said, we will always do our best to accommodate last-minute brides, so let us know before your wedding dress appointment if you’re on a shorter timeline.

How to prepare for your bridal fitting

It’s time to get those Pinterest boards out! We always advise doing your research prior to any wedding dress fitting so you have an idea of the look you want to achieve. Don’t forget to browse our collection of wedding dresses and bookmark any designs that catch your eye. If you’re not sure what silhouette will suit you or how to choose from all the styles, don’t worry — that’s what our expert bridal consultants are here to help with.

What underwear to wear to your bridal fitting

Seamless, skin-toned underwear is always best to avoid visible lines or colours showing through your gown. Any supportive and comfortable bra is advised, but for fuller-busted brides we’d recommend a strapless bra. If you’ve planned ahead and already know what underwear you’ll be wearing on the big day, wear that to any wedding dress appointment so you can get the truest sense of the final look.

What shoes to wear to your bridal fitting

We have a selection of shoes at our bridal boutique to try on with your dress. If you’ve already chosen your wedding dress shoes, or have an ideal heel length, then we recommend bringing those with you.

Who to bring to your bridal fitting

We recommend you bring no more than 5 guests with you, as too many opinions can be overwhelming. However, if you would like to bring more, just give us a quick email beforehand so we can make sure we can cater for your group size.

What happens during your bridal fitting at Veil & Bloom

When you arrive at Veil & Bloom, you’ll be warmly welcomed by your dedicated stylist and shown into our boutique where you can relax with your entourage over a glass of prosecco or a non-alcoholic beverage. We’ll start with a chat about your wedding — including the date, venue, and overall vision — and this is the perfect time to share any inspiration photos so we can get a clear sense of your ideal style and budget.

Now the fun begins! You and your guests can browse our curated collection and pick out any gowns you like. We usually recommend trying around 4-7 dresses, so you have some variation without feeling too overwhelmed. You’ll then head to the changing room with our stylist to try on your first dress. We understand it’s an intimate task being put into a wedding dress by someone else, but we’re committed to making all our brides feel completely at east, supported, and confident.

If you decide to say “yes” to the dress? It’s time to celebrate! We’ll pop some bubbly, give you some time to soak it all in with your loved ones, and make sure you have plenty of time (and photos!) to remember this special moment.

What happens after choosing your wedding dress

Congratulations, you’ve found your dream wedding dress at Veil & Bloom! Once you’ve celebrated, we’ll take your measurements and a 50% deposit to secure your gown. When your dress arrives in store, we’ll invite you back for a second appointment to try it on with your bespoke measurements. At this stage, we’ll take the final payment, and your beautiful wedding dress will be ready to take home.

Our tips for a successful fitting

If you don’t love a dress, don’t be afraid to say so! Wedding dresses are incredibly personal — and this is your moment, so we want you to feel completely comfortable expressing what you do and don’t like. Veil & Bloom is a judgement-free zone, and your honest opinion will help us guide you closer to the gown that truly feels right.

It’s also important to keep an open mind. You might go into your wedding dress fitting wanting a certain style, colour, or fabric, only to fall in love with something totally unexpected. Focus on how the dress makes you feel, not just how it looks.

We also encourage having your entourage take plenty of photos throughout your appointment. Not only are they lovely memories to look back on, but if you need some more time to decide between designs then having pictures will be invaluable.
